Common questions about therapy, my approach, and what to expect from our work together.
Counselling provides a safe, confidential space where you can talk openly about your thoughts, feelings, and experiences with a trained professional. It can help you gain clarity, develop coping strategies, process difficult experiences, and work towards positive change in your life. You don't need to be in crisis to benefit from therapy. It can also support personal growth and self-understanding.
I take an integrative approach, drawing from several evidence-based modalities including person-centred therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), psychodynamic work, and EMDR. I also draw on Internal Family Systems (IFS) and psychosynthesis psychology. This means I can tailor my approach to what will be most helpful for you, rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach.
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) is a structured therapy that was originally developed to treat post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). It helps the brain process traumatic memories by using bilateral stimulation (such as guided eye movements) while you recall distressing events. This can reduce the emotional intensity of these memories and help you move forward. EMDR is recommended by NICE (National Institute for Health and Care Excellence) for the treatment of PTSD.
The length of therapy varies from person to person and depends on your individual needs and goals. Some people find that a short course of 6-12 sessions is enough, while others benefit from longer-term work. We'll discuss this together and regularly review your progress. You're always in control of how long you wish to continue.
Yes, confidentiality is a cornerstone of the therapeutic relationship. Everything discussed in our sessions remains confidential, with very limited exceptions. These include situations where there is a serious risk of harm to yourself or others, or where there is a legal requirement to disclose information. I will always discuss the limits of confidentiality with you at the start of our work together.
Yes. Research consistently shows that online therapy is just as effective as in-person sessions for conditions including anxiety, depression, trauma and PTSD. Many clients find they feel more comfortable and open in their own environment, which can enhance the therapeutic process. I have seen excellent outcomes working with clients online.
No. You do not need a GP referral to access private counselling. You can book directly through this website or contact me to arrange a free 15-minute consultation. If you are experiencing a mental health crisis, please contact your GP, call 999, or reach the Samaritans on 116 123.
All sessions are £70, regardless of the type of therapy. Payment is processed securely through Stripe at the time of booking. This includes all therapeutic approaches I offer, including EMDR.
I currently offer online sessions only. This means you can access therapy from the comfort and privacy of your own space, wherever you are. Online therapy has been shown to be just as effective as in-person sessions, and many clients appreciate the flexibility and convenience it offers.
All sessions, including EMDR, are 50 minutes. If you feel you need longer sessions, this is something we can discuss based on your individual needs and the work we're doing together.
You'll need a private, quiet space where you won't be disturbed, a device with a camera and microphone (computer, laptop, tablet, or smartphone), and a stable internet connection. I'll send you a secure link before each session. It's also helpful to have tissues and water nearby.
I ask for at least 48 hours' notice if you need to cancel or reschedule a session. Cancellations made with less than 48 hours' notice may be charged at the full session rate. I understand that emergencies happen, and these will always be handled with compassion and flexibility.
You can book a session directly through the booking page on this website. Simply choose your preferred date and time, fill in your details, and complete the secure payment through Stripe. You can also get in touch via email or phone if you'd prefer to arrange your first session that way.
Yes. I offer a free 15-minute consultation so you can ask any questions and see if we're a good fit before committing to a full session. You can book this directly through the booking page. There is no obligation to continue after the consultation.
The first session is an opportunity for us to get to know each other. We'll discuss what's brought you to therapy, your goals, and any questions you have. I'll explain how I work and we'll discuss practicalities like confidentiality and how we'll work together. There's no pressure to share more than you're comfortable with — we go at your pace.
Absolutely. It's completely normal to feel nervous, anxious, or unsure about starting therapy. Many people feel this way, and it's a sign of courage that you're considering taking this step. I aim to create a warm, welcoming space where you can feel at ease. There's no judgement, and we'll work at a pace that feels comfortable for you.
